The Good Fight of Faith

Standing in a Fixed Position

Written by Annie Curtis

Welcome, Harvest Time!

This is a remarkable time of year, a season of abundance and fulfillment. Also, a time when farmers see bountiful returns from the seeds that have been sown. In the same way, as believers, we have sown seeds in faith as well. Perhaps, someone is standing in faith for healing, financial provision, a family breakthrough, or clarity in an important decision to be made. Let us be reminded that faith is not passive wishing, but the active expectation that what we are believing for will surely come to pass.

Why Is It A Fight of Faith?

Meanwhile, there is a “fight” that comes against our faith which shows up as doubt, fear, confusion, or any vice Satan uses to sway us into unbelief in order to keep us from receiving the promises from God. Paul calls this “the good fight of faith.” 1 Timothy 6:12 urges us to “Fight the good fight of faith, and lay hold on eternal life...” Our position is to stand firm in faith in spite of opposition and believe the promises in God’s Word, while pursuing the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus.

When we fight, we cast out doubt and silence fear. We resist the attacks of the enemy, and hold fast to God’s Word until His promises manifest. Sometimes, the breakthrough is immediate. Other times, it requires patience. Nevertheless, a faith-filled believer continually declares, “I believe in God.”

Standing on the Promises of God

Standing on God's Word is a posture. It’s choosing to believe His truth above everything else. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He didn't argue with the enemy; He responded with authority, "It is written" (Matthew 4:4). That was His posture, and it must be ours as well. When we do this, we position ourselves to receive blessings that are already ours.

Ephesians 1:4 reminds us that before the world was formed, God chose us. He already knew the battles we would face and secured our victory through Christ Jesus. Often stated, our victory is like a boxing match where the outcome is predetermined, we may take some hits, but the championship belt already has our name on it. That's what it means when, "The fight is fixed." Weapons may form, but God declares they will not prosper (Isaiah 54:17). The attack may come, but the outcome has already been decided that we will win.

A Settled Outcome

Whatever you're facing today, remember this: “the good fight of faith" is not about physical battles, but about standing firm in faith, believing God's Word, and resisting every temptation that would cause your faith to waver. So, in this harvest season, hold fast and keep believing because God, the One who promises is faithful to perform.
